What is pain management and why should you be treated by a pain specialist?

Pain management is scientific evaluation, accurate diagnosis & appropriate treatment of pain by pain specialists trained in this specialty. Today we know that pain should never be ignored. It should be assessed thoroughly and treated aggressively and in some cases managed as chronic condition. Anaesthesiologist know pain better than most other specialists. By their training they are already familiar with the spinal and epidural injections. Inserting needles comes naturally to them. With an additional knowledge and training to use sophisticated equipment, they can inject at the exact point where the disease process is suspected and diagnose or treat the root cause of pain. However an injection performed without proper equipment or adequate knowledge could perhaps do more harm than good. We also know that when people with pain take an active role in their pain management, they get the best results possible, less pain and more involvement in life.
